If you want a free option, you should also be able to use tar. It's a while
since I did it ( we had a mac with a tape drive where I used to work ) -
but there's a program called "suntar" which is free and should allow you to
write/read tar archives from your tape.

Tar (Tape ARchive) is a way of getting directory a structure onto a sequential
media (ie a tape). Whereas on a disc you can jump around and read from
different bits (eg. skip tracks on a CD), with a tape you have to read from
beginning to end. So tar splunges the directory structure into a single file,
which can be written to the tape.

Also, I remember the SCSI tapes where we used to work being a bit
temperamental. You have to power on the tape drive before you switch on
the mac, otherwise it won't be recognised. To be exact, you have to power
on the last thing on the SCSI bus first, and continue down the SCSI bus to
the mac. And you need to power down in the reverse order.

Eg, if you have
Mac - SCSI Cable - CD - SCSI cable - Tape

You need to power on in the order Tape, CD, Mac
and off in the order Mac, CD, Tape.

I would have promised those terrorists a trip to Disneyland if it would have
gotten the hostages released. I thank God they were satisfied with the
missiles and we didn't have to go to that extreme.
