Hey Gang:

Last weekend, I went over to a friends place to help him sort out this
mountain of "Computer Stuff", When we finally gave up, around
midnight, He ended up giving me a few boxes of "Stuff" for helping
him out.

A couple of days later, I was sorting some of it out and came across
3 motherboards that looked like Quads. With a little help from LEM
I came to the conclusion that they were Centris 650s 68040/25

I've got a Q700 thats kind of a pet, had it around a couple of years
now. Every once in a while I drag it out and do strange things with it.
After looking at the Centris boards, I got my Q700 out and compared
them. They were a perfect match, same ports, same power supply,
same switches everything.

The only differences I noticed were, 72 pin RAM and an extra NuBus
slot.

Naturally I had to put it in and try it. It dropped right in, NO
ALTERATIONS
I put 4 32mb RAM chips in. This, counting the 8mb on board brought
me up to 136mb. the only 30 pin SIMMS I could find for the Q700 were
only 4mb each. with the 4mb on board, this only gave me a total of 20mb.

I now had an increase of116mb of RAM. I then put in my 68040/25
processor out of my Q700.

According to my interpretation of the available specs,
....The data sheet didn't say how much faster the SCSI Bus was but did
..say it was faster.
....The Data path on the Q700 is 32,25
..on the Centris it is 64,25
....The Centris supports RAM Interleaving
The basic conclusion arrived at on the spec, sheet was that with both
machines
having equal RAM, 20mb for instance the Centris was 10% faster, then
taking
into allowance the extra116mb of RAM available on the Centris, who
knows.
With virtual memory, could safely be well over 200mb.

After putting everything back together, reinstalling my extra video card
and my
portrait video card, I still had the extra NuBus slot left over, It's
not available
from the ouyside, but I put the Radius Rocket out of my IIci in the
extra slot
and it works great. No comparison in the two machines.

If anyone has any further interest or questions, that hopefully I can
