These cards used an onboard processor, usually a 68000 to handle much of the processing, relieving the computers CPU of at least some of it's load. The card could be programmed to not only handle the normal functions of the card but to do more application specific functions. Apple Coax/TwinAx NuBus I believe this is a 3270 card for connecting to IBM mainframes and their ilk (and they are very ilky). Apple Ethernet NuBus As it sounds but it is not the typical Ethernet card. Most Apple Ethernet cards do not have the built in processor. Apple Serial NuBus I think it was a dual serial port card. Apple Token Ring card Token Ring, another great idea from IBM. Actually in many ways it's superior to Ethernet but clearly it is dead. There is at least another that I know of. At a SF MacWorld years ago somebody was demo-ing a hardware controller card that was hooked up to an LGB model train layout. The NuBus card handled all the control of the train while the Mac (a state of the art MacII) displayed the train's operation. -- Clark Martin Redwood City, CA, USA Macintosh / Internet Consulting [EMAIL PROTECTED] "I'm a designated driver on the Information Super Highway" -- Quadlist is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
