Hello all,

This is an intro with a few questions. Where I work they toss old Macs and
PCs in a pile on a loading doc to be hauled away to the 'recycler' (read trashman
or landfill). Before that happens the vultures descend. I am one of those
vultures. I have also been a lurker on this list for about 6 months now. I
have had many questions that I have never had to ask because quite often they
have been answered (and then some) by just watching and reading. It has encouraged
me to reanimate my old Centris 650. And set-up systems that I could only have
dreamed about when they were new. Retro is good. Retro is cool.

I recently picked up a Q840AV w/Radius VideoVision Studio card that I thought
might be fun to play with.
But, I haven't had time to really look at it carefully.
Does anyone have experience with the Radius VideoVision Studio card?
Does anyone know of a website and/or a list that deals with this card?
(I can find SOME specs on it, but keep running into webpages that aren't
active or available anymore, but still listed.)

On another note, I have also picked up a Logitech Scanman hand scanner for
Mac but cannot find drivers for it.
Does anyone have info and/or drivers for this device?
Or can you point me in the direction of same?

I am currently using an 8500/120 w/9Gig HD for sound recording. It might not
be as fast as my G3. But while slow, it frees up my main computer to do the
more heavy memory crunching projects. My house is beginning to look like a
Mac Museum. I have a Mac SE, a Q950 w/Apple 66mhz PPC upgrade card, my original
Mac - a Centris 650, my blue & white G3, an iBook DV (graphite), an old Powerbook
145 w/bum battery and a few old Mac IIs. Unfortunately, I think I am going
to need a monitor switcher because while the machines seem pretty bullet-proof,
the monitors don't. I only have the 15" monitor that came with my Centris
and the Studio monitor with my G3 (not counting the portables.).

I am working with these 'old ducks' because I REALLY hate to see these machines
turned into scrap metal. (Call me sentimental.) And I have noticed that while
the majority of the Macs that are dumped still work very well, most of the
PCs that are dumped don't. The only other machines that have shown up that
I am intrigued with are the Silicon Graphics Personal Iris' that appear from
time to time. I just don't know enough about them to want to jump in that
hole yet. But they seem to be extremely over-engineered.

My hat is off to you folks for this list. It is very informative, and pretty
whacky at times. It has proved invaluable in the past and probably will in
the future. And even though some have complained about the 'attitudes' that
are presented from time to time. I, personally, like it. It keeps life interesting.
And most of those with 'attitude' seem to be those with the most knowledge.

I will be much more brief next time around thanks for your time and your knowledge.

No clever tagline.
