I've just transplanted an 8100/100 Powermac motherboard to a Quadra 800
case. I intend to use this machine exclusively as a print and file server
over a two-machine network, so it'll be running as least as much as I run my
main machine, which is usually anywhere from three to five hours a day. My
problem is that while I have both an AV and and HPV video card, neither will
seem to fit into the Q800 case. The cards fit into the PDS slot on the 8100
mobo just fine, of course, but once the board is mounted in the case, the
frame won't allow me to fit a video card into the slot. I've scoured Ebay
looking for PDS terminators, but they seem to be as scarce as hen's teeth,
and anyway this project is 'way over budget already. The machine seems to
run just fine without a terminator or a video card. A few posts on Usenet
note that some people have seemed to run 8100's with an empty PDS without
any problems, but I'd hate to have spent all this money and gone to all this
trouble just to slowly fry the motherboard. I know it's supposed to be risky
to run an 8100 with an empty PDS slot, but how risky is it?

Is there any kind of video card that will fit an 8100 board mounted in a
Q800 case? If not, should I just let this machine gather dust until I can
scrounge up a PDS terminator at a reasonable (i.e. cheap) price? Has anybody
else out there had this kind of problem?
