It seems I fooled myself ;-( I had also upgraded to MacOS 8.1 from 8.0 and I was using the "About this Mac" Menu item instead of the Apple investigator (sorry can't remember the name..) under 8.0 it said PowerPC or nothing umder 8.1 it doesn't say PowerPC... So, what is the last release to support PDSified PowerPCs on Quadra's 8.5? So, It works!!! Thanks! Frank PS.
