Well, I've now sorted this (I think).

Sorry for replying to my own post, but I thought it might help someonebody
else with the same problem.

I used FWB Disk Tools from my OS8 install CD, and updated the drivers for
the disks.

Both now work OK.

Perchance some incompatablity when one was formatted with FWB and the other with
HD Setup?
