I don't know if a mobo swap with 52xx/53xx/63xx is viable on an LC520 form factor Mac (which encompasses the Performa 577). It may be possible, it's just something I haven't attempted per se, nor finding any on-line reference to it. An upgrade path I took a few times was with Q630's by swapping their mobo's with those from 52xx/53xx/63xx PowerMacs. That was a fairly painless exercise, my only gripe was I didn't see much of a difference in performance. Also none of the mobos that I got, had their level 2 cache slots filled (I also found it impossible to obtain any), which if it had been present may have improved their performance some. That aside, 630's are easy to come by, usually for very few dollars, and their mobos are easily swapped out with all of the 53xx/63xx series. The only exception is the 6360 where you also need to swap the PSU and upgrade any comm slot 1, PDS cards and RAM SIMMs to comm slot 2, PCI and RAM DIMMs. > I understand the 33 speed and the probelms is causes with > ethernet connections and if I can not get it to connect to an ethernet > easily, it is a useless machine to me and any one is welcome to have it who > wants it in that case. It has a comm slot doesn't it? I don't see that there would be any difficulties networking with an approriate ethernet card (comm slot 1 or LCPDS). And, if a 52xx/53xx/63xx mobo is compatible, they all have comm slot 1 options as well, except for 6360 which has comm slot 2 and PCI. Mike -- Quadlist is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
