No updates or anything lately? Has it been moved? I had (have) an 840 that did the same thing (sort of) - except it would sit for about 15-20 minutes, give a "crash" chime o' doom, then restart / start up normally after that. I recall replacing the PRAM, giving the cables a good re-attaching, and replacing RAM (there was one oddball stick in it, IIRC.)
I ask about moving because something may have come loose, even if it was just moved from one side of the desk to the other to clean or some such. (It happens.)
