NECs first such monitor was known as BiSync which could do two sets
of frequencies / resolution and worked specifically with I think it
was the IBM EGA video card. Later versions were called Multi-Sync
(NEC Trademarked the term) as they operate over a range of
frequencies.

I just looked up the info on my 17" Optiquest (View Sonic) and under
the "Precision Timing..." section:

True multi-scanning ability allows automatic tracking of horizontal
frequencies from 30 to 70 KHz and vertical frequencies from
50 to 180Hz.

It does list various maximum vertical frequencies for given
resolutions. It also lists eight timing preset and 13 user definable
timing sets. Otherwise it doesn't list any specific resolutions.

I've also played around with resolution / refresh rates and found
most of the monitors I used would work with anything under the
maximum resolution / refresh the monitor could handle.
