To satisfy your curiousity...

It is an internal file/mp3/backup server for my other 4 machines (2 wired +
2 wireless). Occasional dyndns FTP server. I've got it running headless
with Timbuktu and have the drive spin down as well after 5 minutes.

I gave NetBSD a whirl on a Q605 for fun and to see if it would be any
quicker but it was basically the same speed as far as network file transfer
speeds.

According to this article,

I should be able to speed up xfer rates by running Surfdoubler/Speed Doubler
and PowerShare. So I'll be off looking for speeddoubler to give it a try.
Any leads on where to find speeddoubler these days?

Of course much of this is a test to push these toys. I'm very tempted to
build a cheapo PC in a shuttle case to run as a home media box/server/PVR.
