While not trying to buck the "PRAM theory" to all Mac computing woes. Because you mention the fan spinning [but Mac not booting up], this could be symptomatic of a PSU that's on the way out. - IOW, not quite dead, but soon to be. Check the voltage of the battery 1st by all means. And if it falls below 3.2 volts then change it over, after all, 10 years is a pretty good innings for sterling performance without startup issues [the 950 was introduced in May, 1992 and not discontinued until Oct. 1995].
