Try holding down the shift key (use the left one to be sure).  This
will allow the Mac to boot without loading a bunch of stuff during
startup.  Do you know which launcher you're using (eg. the one
which came with the system software, At Ease, something which came
from a third party)?

And please don't cross post messages.  If you have trouble getting
a response from one, then go on to another.
