Hi,
I am successfully running NetBSD on my 030 and 040 based MAC's
(LCIII/LC450, LC475, Quadra 700). For the 040LC there is now NetBSD
mk68k-softfloat.
More about this one can find at:

(the systems with 040LC one can download the system from here:
ftp://ftp.ziaspace.com/pub/NetBSD/m68k.)
For the PPC version look at:
http://www.netbsd.org/Ports/macppc/
There is a lot of documentation and one can browse the mailing lists
archives to look for ideas etc.
