Well, I'm in the boonies of southeastern wisconsin, so
here we go:

Assuming you get a connection that doesn't require
PPPoE, it'll just work.  There is probably a PPPoE app
for MacOS pre-X, but PPPoE tends to add CPU overhead,
and you won't have much to spare on that old girl. 
SBC=bad ( PPPoE ), Charter Cable ( good, relatively
:-) )

If you do have a connection that requires PPPoE, find
a home router box that will support PPPoE.

In either case, pppoe modem or non-pppoe link, the
drop to your computer will be normal ethernet.  Get an
IP on the Quad, and it will just work.
