I *think* that this might be a bug in Mozilla. I ass-ume you're using the
WaMCom version (1.3.1)?

IIRC, I went through shades of the same thing in '04 when I lost my mind
(IMO) and signed up for gmail. It seemed that with Mozilla, if I downloaded
it and left it alone (i.e. did not "disable cookies" or mess about with any
of the cookies options), I could go to sites requiring cookies with no
problem.

In the case of gmail, though, I encountered the same problem you did. I had
selected the "disable cookies" option before faffing about with gmail. Even
after I enabled cookies and left the browser wide open, I still got the same
"you need to enable cookies" message. Rebooting the machine produced no
change. At that point, I simply decided that I was done fooling around with
gmail and wrote it off.

I dunno about the "latest borwser" bit. WaMCom Mozilla turns 3 years old in
July this year (if I'm not mistaken). In Internet terms, it's ancient.

As much as I enjoy wringing the most out my older hardware, it seems that
there's a point of diminishing returns. Me, I'm hoping I can use the WaMCom
Mozilla for another couple years, but I readily acknowledge that this might
be Wishful Thinking on my part because there are already some things I can't
do with it. >:/
