I've tested the patch on NetBSD 6 i386, where it causes routes from ripngd to show up and work, whereas without the patch they do not.
On OS X, the new warning is emitted. I read the net/route.h file and don't see that it defines alignment. I am pretty sure other BSDs will be defining RT_ROUNDUP. But if not other than a warning the behavior should be unchanged. This won't change Linux, because it's routing socket not netlink. I've already put this patch in the pkgsrc entry for quagga.
