Hello,
I'm trying to understand what is the purpose of the bgp multiple-instance
feature.

If I am not mistaken, bgp views are a way to have multiple bgp processes
without them actually modifying the kernel routing table.
However, from the official documentation it seems that it is also possible
to have multiple instances without using bgp views - i.e. each instance
modifies the kernel tables.

In the latter case, is each instance required to have a different AS? How
is a multiple-instance setup different from having multiple independent
bgpd daemons running in different hosts (which could be physical, lxc or
virtual machines)?

Is there any configuration example I can use?

Thanks for the help.

Best regards,
  Vincenzo
