Steve,

The only plastic bit i can think of on the hand brake cable is the
adjuster. It is mounted above the diff and fits in to a hole on the
chassis below the tank. You can see/feel it with the rear wheels off.
As craig says the cable is a shortened Sierra one. Only the cable is
shortened. You then have to make off a new end to fitt in the rear
shoe. If the adjuster has gone should not be to bad to get the old one
off that will give you an idea about fitting the new one. Adjusting a
new one will be fiddly as the adjuster is close to the fuel tank.
