It would help, it may even make the seats easier to fit rather than fiddling about with those spacers. However whilst the alum is lighter, my inclination would be to use stainless, per the floor and weld it at the front and back ends, with a couple of tack welds along the length. The other option is to use the triangular top hat per Quantum and continue using the spacers, this option would be lighter than the stainless box. If Q would sell you the top hat as a kit, you could get it welded locally.
