I've decided not to grumble too much about that carb: a nice gentle trip all the way around the M25 today with a slight detour down the M20, not thrashing it but cruising mid-seventies and only twenty minutes in a traffic jam at the bridge: 165 miles, 16.9 litres brim to brim. Which is 44.4mpg and a damn site better than I get commuting - it seems it doesn't like stop and start traffic. Even after that though, the exhaust is black. Decided though that I do need the new springs. I'll get them ordered sharpish.
