The coupe has been running coil over shocks at the front since I
rebuilt it, however the coil overs came with a load of stuff that
someone was going to make into a track day only car. The upshot is
that I have never known the spring rates and the ride is as firm as
you are likely to get. Ontop of this the springs do actually "squeak"
when driving along, they are slightly rubbing on the shock body
section.
Anyway that's the history now for the question. I have sourced a pair
of MK2 XR2 front legs and by using the top fitments of the MK1 coil
overs I have managed to fit them to the car, however does anyone have
any idea as to how much lower than standard springs I can go without
fouling and also what spring rate I should be looking for to get a
reasonably comfortable ride but not too soft? I am running 195 45 15
tyres on OZ wheels with a 10mm spacer to get the tyres to clear the
leg. I still have other works to do to the car so it is not on its
wheels just yet.
