most recent progress

the elusive drivers side suspension has now been bolted up after shot
blasting , phosphate and painting and re-bushing after 3 attempts to
buy this Assembly i thought it would never happen (1 was cut with a
grinder prior to posting to be the other was bent out of shape prior
to being removed from the donor car and the other was too painfull to
mention, but here we are at last

had to come up with a solution to not being able to get the gearbox
oil into the box as i couldn't reach with standard nozzle, so i
adapted one

putting 3.1L of oil in through a tiny hole in a long tube is like a
form of torture, start off thinking better not squeeze bottle too hard
as i don't want to burst container or spill any, then on bottle # 3
your jumping up and down on it .

since this is an earlier XR2 engine the heater hoses come off the
water pump at different angles, i made up a new brass pipe to fit off
the pump to take the flow from the stat across the front of the engine
rather than bending it back on itself and right the way round the back
and around the other side (as per original) this saves about 2meters
of hose and the risk of it getting chafed around the engine, only
thing to bear in mind when making it was to use brass so the heat wont
affect it like rubber

then time to torque the hub nuts and drop it to the ground

supporting its own weight first time in 5 months, seems a little lower
than i remember too, unless I've missed a vital part of the suspension
out?

all that is left (fingers crossed) is to bolt the exhaust to the car ,
bleed brakes , fit a few more rad hoses (when i can find some) change
rocker cover and engine oil and it should (flipping well should) fire
up....... wait and see
