Subject: [Quantum Owners] 2011 French Tour Proposal

Advanced notice - this should be in the next magazine too, but I'm trying to
gauge interest in next years QOC Tour. As it's the club's 21st birthday at
Newark next year, we thought that it would be good to pop down to Rheims in
northern France and pick up some champagne to celebrate this event. The
planned event (with distances) is as follows, although this can be changed
if it doesn't appeal:

Saturday 11 June. All meet in Hythe; distance depends if you live in
Folkestone or Glasgow :-)

Sunday 12 June. Catch the Eurotunnel at about 10am for a 30 mins crossing,
then head down to Rouen area (hopefully including the coast road to
Etretat). Approx distance 140 miles

Monday 13 June. Tour in the Rouen area, to include the Pegasus bridge
museum, one of the Normandy beaches and a crossing of the Pont du Normandy.
Distance will depend upon what we plan to do. Overnight in the Rouen area.

Tuesday 14 June Rouen to Amiens - directly this is less than 80 miles, but
we could head down to Giverny for a bit of culture (Monet's garden), making
the trip about 170 miles.

Wednesday 15 June. Amiens to Rhiems via the underground city at Naours.
Approx distance 120 miles

Thursday 16 June. Rhiems area - visit to the old GP circuit at Gueux, tour
of a champagne house in Epernay & collect some birthday champagne.
Overnight in Rheims

Friday 17th June: Rhiems to somewhere near Calais, maybe via Laon (location
of an annual historic hillclimb); approx distance 170 miles.

Saturday 18th June: Back via the tunnel to Folkestone, then (for those who
want) up to Newark for the 21st birthday celebrations. Folkestone to Newark
is just under 200 miles via the delights of the M20 & M25.

I've come up with an estimated maximum cost of £700 per person for this.
This includes bed and breakfast in Hythe, dinner bed and breakfast in the
hotels in France (staying in Logis de France) plus the tunnel crossing in
both directions. Costs on top of this would be tolls on the autoroutes,
lunches and drinks with dinner.

We're not looking for deposits yet, but do need an idea of numbers so that I
can get a more accurate costs together, so please let me know by Sunday 12th
December if you would like to go and I can get some prices over Christmas.

Pete
