Removing the detent spring housing (long nut) from the side of the gearbox will partly drain it. None of the housing bolts will though, they are all blind holes or only go through to the outside of the gearbox.
Good design really, no oil leaks down the bolt threads.

to know

Has anyone either fitted or taken a 5 sped apart and knows of a
reasonable place to drill and fit a plug?

Looking at the Haynes manual of a stripped box it looks like a
suitable location to fit one would be here

Since there appears to be nothing directly behind it like a bearing
carrier or bush etc, if anyone knows differently please let me know

Cheers in advance
