Hmm. That was not the case when I changed the engine in mine - from Ford to Fiat. We had a bit of back and forth because I couldn't immediately locate the engine number - I (well, Joe!) had to find the original V5 of the donor car since that on the engine itself was illegible. But after they were happy, a V5 dropped through the letterbox, and no mention of changing the plate.
