My son's 1999 escort 1.4 CVH has developed a whine for the last 2
weeks or so which is coming from one of the components driven by the
auxiliary drive belt. He had gone through a bit of a flood the night
before the noise started so I suspect water has got in somewhere. I'm
finding it difficult to narrow it down. If I release the tension on
the belt even the slightest amount the noise disappears.I have
dismantled the belt tensioner and greased the bearing to no avail. I
also replaced the belt as it was a bit frayed. My suspicions are
pointing to the power steering pulley bearing.
What I really need to know is whether the bearing can be replace or is
it a case of replacing the whole pump.

Any ideas would be welcome even though it's not a Q

Paschal
