That type always go rusty on the outside, the power coating isn't brake
fluid proof !
You can get them apart.
I've repainted them by stripping all the old powercoating off with a hot
air gun and a wire brush, then either dipping in rust dissolving
solution, or sand blasting (block all all outlets with old brake pipe
fittings with stubs of pipe squashed flat and tank tape the rest).

Thanks Jim, The Haynes manual shows the master can be dismantled but
you have to lever a large plastic cover away and I'm damaging it
trying to do it. The outside of the master is quite rusty so ideally
I'd replace but I'm still going to try and dismantle if I can. Haynes
say its the same on post '86 1.4 and XR2's so I'll ring round tomorrow
and see what I can get. Even if I get a used master I'd still want to
rebuild it so I still need to dismantle.
Will continue to try tomorrow eve if I can.
