It's exactly the problem I had. It was a while ago now, so I can't remember the details, but it did involve fully dismantling the odo down to component parts and reassembling with a washer at one end. I think it was one of the drums catching on the bracket and so the washer was to space it back out. Probably because over the years of heat cycling and a bit of abrasive wear there's just that bit too much slop in it.
