The turbo is a brand-new reconditioned unit by a well-reputed
specialist in this type. It has both a wastegate (which is working)
and an ECU control which divert the compressed side to limit engine
spool-up in low gears; that's also working.
The fuel is new; filled up a week ago at my usual place.
I have the software to talk to the ECU (I wrote it for the Fiat Coupe)
and nothing's complaining.
Smoke is definitely burning oil, and it's definitely getting in on the
overrun - but as I said, the inlet manifold and associated pipework is
clean.
What is really puzzling is that, wherever the oil is coming from,
there's no trace of it in any of the obvious places... it doesn't show
on the sparks or the exhaust. It's almost as if it's stoichiometric
mix!
Redex is a possibility, but the compression tests rather indicate that
the rings are intact and working.
Which is what's leading us to the valve stems...
