Maybe worth resetting the see posts by Jim on this subject.
Then could go for the standard things.
Plugs - colour / age / Etc
Leads, coil pack etc
Look for air leaks etc.
Is the clock on the dash flashing the red light? Morse code fault.
On that note you could pay for diagnostics.
Unplug the air mass connector and take it for a spin see what happens.
