Too long since I assembled mine to remember whether the float is solid or hollow but if hollow then it sounds like the float got punctured somehow when the combined fuel pump and sender unit was removed thus reducing the buoyancy of the float – it may be possible to repair but this will depend upon from what material it is made. Few glues survive living in petrol.

Does anyone know if you can repair the sender. What happens is when the tank is full the fuel gauge shows full. Once I've done about +50 miles & the level drops the gauge starts to 'bounce' quite a bit. Eventually the gauge will just sit on the bottom, even though 3/4 full.
