Make sure nothing is restricting the wiper arms movement. I've managed to have it hitting my new alarm box and snagging a wire before. Both added extra load, which I thankfully noticed by the wipers slowing down, or on the first occasion the arm popped off! I have done a lot of mods under there and you can't see what has moved once you have closed up.
