Yes, the earlier saloons were based on Mk1 Fiesta parts.
Fairly similar to Mk2 but the top mounts were completely different.
If you can borrow a pair of digital calipers (or buy, they are really
cheap now) then you need to measure the diameter of the threaded section
that comes through the top mount.
If it's 14mm then it's easy.
If it's 12mm (which i think it is) then also measure the pitch (crest to
crest) of the thread, this is the tricky one as there isn't much
difference between 1.25 and 1.50 pitch.
The best thing to do is remove the top mount nut (you can do this from
under the bonnet, it won't spring up as there is another nut underneath
the mount that holds the spring cap on) and measure as many threads as
you can.
Then divide that distance by the number of threads, this will give you a
much more accurate figure.

It seems that my saloon has Mk 1 Fiesta front struts and the top
mountings are substantially different from the more common mk 2
struts. At the recent MOT I was advised that there was some play in
the top mountings,,,,so I imagine I have almost a year to solve the
following problem: Compbrake Motorsport Ltd can supply a pair of Ford
Fiesta Mk1 Front Fixed Suspension Top Mounts of their own manufacture
(THANKYOU Bristol Kit Car Club member for that information), BUT they
want the following information: PLEASE SPECIFY THE SIZE OF SLEEVE NUT
AND WASHER REQUIRED (M12x1.25, M12x1.50, M14x1.50 OR M17) and there is
also an option to build in 1 degree of negative camber. Can someone
please advise me how to find this information and whether or not I
need to opt for the 1 degree negative camber?
Thanks in advance!
