Thank you for your helpful and interesting replies. It looks that my next step is a visit to Halfords for a can of spray. One suggestion was to take the door cards off and have a look for rust on the cables. They , perhaps could do with a spray WD40 but how do I remove the door cards on an H4? I will of course try the spray route to the solution but it will have to done some time or another so I might as well know. Furthermore it will save me paying the garage for something I can do myself. Thank you also for the background on the H4S. It did not look too difference to the usual models but you can never tell with kit cars can you.
