Wow,
Thankfully a happy outcome. Surprised they didn't see/smell it at MOT. I had
exactly the same thing (leak from hose) at MOT retest on the Rickman last year
which I (and the tester) know wasn't there the day before! This
(Geoff's)particular incident may or may not be a direct result of the changing
cocktail of fuel which seems to be ever changing. John Dickens penned a good
article in CKC (last year? ...time flies) about the ethanol which is being
added to petrol, and the way it can eat through hoses, metal tubes and
carburetters is both eye-opening and frightening! Makes one wonder about the
perceived wisdom of excluding older cars (more likely to have incompatible
hoses) from the MOT test. Be safe out there.

  Subject: [Quantum Owners] Fire extinguisher

Had a very scary few moments this morning, just after getting the 2+2 mot'd.
when I went to start it up, it did not start but there was a wisp of smoke from
under the bonnet. I grabbed my fire extinguisher from the boot and opened the
bonnet to see flames at the back of the engine. Thankfully a quick blast of dry
powder and the fire was out. Very scary and I count my self very lucky that I
could tackle the fire so promptly I could very easily have lost the 2+2. The
reason for the fire, a fuel hose had come lose. The good news is that the fire
did very little damage, and after fixing the hose, I was able to start the car
and drive home.
