By the way, a head gasket leak between a combustion chamber and a waterway won't result in contaminated oil, but over a longish period of time might be detectable as a trace of oil in the water (rainbow effect on the surface of the water in the expansion tank). I have noticed recently that after a run, water level in expansion tank seems to disappear once switched off , however if I open expansion tank later seems to de-pressurise and level comes back up ? I recently changed stat , coolant sensor , flushed & refilled and new expansion cap. I have checked for leaks etc. but don't see any issues , and if I had external leak would not fill up again , water doesn't seem oily & no mayo on oil cap.
