Hi Nigel F77 OFE drinks fuel like no-ones business, but she spends most of her time with the choke open. It could be the butterflies are a bit sticky. I found the Ford Escort Mk3 Haynes book of lies has the carb / choke rebuild. I would also check the fuel line, mine has a feed and return, and they were corroded, so instead of being fed back into the tank, it was being finely sprayed over the road. Finally in the same area, make sure the tank has not got a hole in it, and the rubber hose connecting the pipe to the fuel line is ok.
