My research says it can be bent cold as long as you make the bend quickly, then it will keep its new shape and be springy. A slow bend will result in hardening of the bend and a right bugger to finish it. Looks like 301 is available in different tempers, will you be able to bend it if it’s already tempered ? You may need to anneal it, bend it and then re-temper it. Which could be useful as you may be able to leave the base of the spring where it is riveted to the hinge un-tempered to avoid it cracking around the rivets or bolts. Did you find a good supplier of 301 stainless ?
