Thanks. Did consult Haynes book of tricks. Yours is pretty much what mine is now. My multimeter is coming out too, should have checked before getting new alternator. Never mind as its the same as the Xtreme I have a spare. Ill be searching tomorrow too, did clean up main battery earth tonight but no improvement. Havent quite got all the logic/ symptoms straight in my head yet as a couple of times it cranked slowly, then on next attempt was fast, indicating a bad connection.
