Mark, is the pump mounted in the engine bay (i.e. above tank level) or under the car at tank level? If the former, the vacuum in the inlet pipe combined with warmth when stationary is easily enough to vapourise the fuel and the pump will run differently until the vapour is consumed and/or the engine-bay temperature drops. In my case (not a Facet) the pump, by design, runs continuously at the same frequency but is very much louder when there is vapour in the line. The effect clears after a few seconds once the car is in motion, due mainly to the increased fuel consumption bringing fresh (cool) fuel through the pump but also due to the under-bonnet temperature dropping. Hope that's useful info.
