Hi All,

We are writing a slideshow application along the lines similar to the one that is part of iPhoto. The application is developed for both
Tiger and Leopard.

We are planning to use Quartz Composer for the purpose. We need to
create a movie out of the slideshow with its included transitions and then add audio
to it. This is again similar to the iPhoto functionality

We are not happy with the approach used to create the movie. The current
approach is :

1. Taking two images at a time ( lets say first and second of the list)
2. Create a movie out of this using QuickTime with the help Quartz
Composition
3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 for the second and the third image in the list and
so on. (So if there are n images ,there will be n-1 temporary movies)
4. Once the individual movies are in place, we stitch them to create the
final movie and add audio.

The problem with the approach is one of performance. In the scenario where there are a lot of images, creating the temporary movies could prove to be a costly affair.

Can all of this be done through Quartz composer alone? Or can the
interaction between the QuickTime and the Quartz Composition be made more
efficient?

The other approach we know of is to use QuickTime for the entire exercise ( transition, addition of audio file and the resultant movie) . But would this solution be compatible with Leopard?

We would also like to know if there is a better approach to all this.

Thanks and Regards
