A good hypothesis, but the code works fine under Tiger -- including on Intel macs. I don't think Leopard's changes are *that* drastic :-) :-)

This sounds like an endianness problem. The code Posted probably expects PPC byte order, and it's failing on Intels (with the opposite byte order).

There are some well-documented tricks to fix this, I don't know where they are off hand but I'm sure someone who does will let you know soon. It's probably only 2 or 3 lines of code to change.
