If you make the gradients in an image processing program like
photoshop you can exactly match the colors you want, then separate out
each color channel (should each color channel result in a different
gradient - youd then need 3 texture luts for each r/g and b, but you
get the idea), however if they are the same you are good to go.
But yah, that histogram plugin may be the way to go.
