Bear in mind that the performance may not be half what it was. All it needs to do is have the FPS drop slightly below your monitor refresh rate and it will cap at the lower FPS. The extra work of drawing to two screens could be causing this, especially if you don't have enough VRAM to hold all the pixels in memory.

Also, I believe the vsync will try to reconcile the refresh rate between them, so in the best case it draws at the slowest refresh rate between them; worst case it refreshes at the lowest common multiple.
