That is certainly not expected. Does it do that on all compositions?
Are you using at billboard with "Real Size" setting? What if you
change the clear color in the composition, does it still show black?
Note that there is no notion of the size of the composition except
what is saved in order to have the Editor open it at the same size. As
long as an object has a width of 2 it should stretch from side to side.

I have a Cocoa app (OSX 10.5.2, Xcode 3.0) that renders a camera
qtz composition into a QCView. This works great, except that when
run in the context of the Cocoa app, the QCView places a black
border around the composition. It doesn't do this when the
composition is run in Quartz Composer. How can I get rid of the
black border? I don't see any options for QCView. The qtz comp
generates the video at exactly 160x120 pixels, and the QCView is
the same dimensions yet I get a 10 pixel or so black border all
around.
Here's a screenshot of what I'm seeing. The QCView is 160x120, and
output of the qtz comp is 160x120, but I get 10 pixels or so black
border when combining the two.
