Ooops,

verry silly mistake. I forgot only the Render In Image containing the GLSL 
patch was being piped into the Movie Exporter patch.
I put the background image billboard inside the Render In Image patch, and now 
everything is now hunky-dory.

Is the background image included in the image you're sending to the  
movie exporter plugin?  mouse-over the input to make sure its getting  
to the patch.

I always have to put the whole composition into a Render In Image  
patch, and then connect that to the movie exporter to get proper movies.
