Sounds exactly like it, but I didn't have to go through that sequence to hit it. From what I remember, it was there upon opening QC. Either way, it seems extremely likely that it's the same bug, but just getting triggered in different ways.
Yeah, I triggered it a few different ways - the one I posted seemed the most reproducible. I think the Patch Creator simply looses sync with program state, and forgets which editor is actually active.
As another variation, if you don't close the initial composition editor, but then open another composition (so it's on top/active), hitting enter in the Patch Creator will place the new patch in the wrong (bottom) composition. fun fun fun :)
