No, that would put all objects in a line, they'd intersect eachother
and still render with perspective.

Alastair: I recall a discussion about this on kineme.net, and I have a
vague recollection of there being a GL Ortho patch. I've not tried it
myself so I may be wrong, but I'd take a look there to see what's
available. It may be part of the GL Tools plugin.
