So is there any intention to support the older ATI cards in a future update?

OpenCL like OpenGL abstracts the api from the hardware and I think it would be ATI's job to expose the hardware to OpenCL through some sort of driver similar to OpenGL drivers.

I may be off my rocker but I think that is how it would work.


Conceptually, Ben, you're right on with the relation to APIs, drivers, and hardware. However, I believe chris (wood)'s question was more along the lines of "is this in the works", not so much of an "is it possible". The former being an economics question, the latter being an engineering one. (many things are possible that are never realized because they're economically unsound).
